AboutDecolonising and Indigenising Music Education SIG

The Decolonising and Indigenising Music Education (DIME) Special Interest Group was established in 2019 by Anita Prest (Canada), Clare Hall (Australia), David Johnson (Sweden) and Te Oti Rakena (New Zealand). It operates in partnership with an indigenous reference group which is a consultative collective.

Mission

The mission of the DIME SIG is to promote music education research, practice and partnerships for and with Indigenous communities. Fundamental to this mission is the meaningful inclusion of Indigenous peoples' voices and approaches for change at the intersection of music and education.

Aim

The aim of the DIME SIG is to contribute to the advancement of the discourse concerning decolonisation and Indigenisation in music education by stimulating discussion about theoretical, philosophical, methodological, policy and applied issues.

Activity

The DIME SIG accomplishes its mission by curating a sequence of world conference presentations that are designed to demonstrate the connection between theory and applied practice in decolonising and indigenising music education.
